Apple’s 1984 Ad

The year was 1984. Apple introduces the Mac, and with it, a super bowl commercial for the ages.

Why was the 1984 ad significant?

The 1984 commercial, based on the George Orwell novel and film of the same name, portrays IBM, the big PC manufacturer of the time, as a sort of apocalyptic, dictatorial company, and positioned the Mac as the only hope for salvation. The Mac represented rebellion, and glory, and individuality. This commercial is what would cement Macs in the office of creative professionals around the world.
