Sixty Day no-email Challenge: Update 1

Well, I’ve somehow officially made it 48 hours without checking my email. Most of that time was without my phone, but that’s beside the point. Today I’d just like to say it’s nice to be disconnected and thus further connected to nature.

Do we really need email? That is the question at the root of this challenge, and that is what I’m really trying to answer here. On the one hand, we’ve survived millions of years without email through other forms of communication that worked decently well. But could we ever go back? Are we at the point of no return?

It seems as if we may just be. For the world to switch would be a major challenge. We would have to bring back antiquated forms of communication from telegraphs to airmail that are gone or fading. It would be a major effort.

But how would it be for one person in a world so intertwined with the web? How would it be for one single person to switch over. I think it may be more challenging. I get 40-50 emails per day. Some get many more. For me, switching over is a major effort. My email is my source of news, my source of emergency updates, and my means of communication. Going against the grain;Going against the chosen means of communication is a challenge. I’ll update you further on this over the next 60 days, but i’m quite curious as to how I can do this. Try it yourself and leave a comment to let me know you’re in.
