Slow Running Mac? We’ve got you covered

Is your Mac getting too slow to use? We’ve written several times about cleaning your disk and fixing up your mac, but if you just want to browse the web on your Mac at a fast pace, we’ve got a solution that literally takes a minute.

User accounts get clogged with RAM hogs, and documents and slow down, so below I’ll show you how to create a guest account and use it properly to triple your speeds.

  1. First we’re going to create the Guest account. Open up system preferences and click on the icon that says “Users and Groups”. Unlock by clicking the lock in the lower left hand corner and entering your password, and then select “guest account” from the sidebar. On the left of that, select the checkbox next to  “Allow Guests to Log on To the Computer”. Lock the changes using the lock below, and after you shut down (for good measure) you should be able to log on to your new guest account.
  2. This account has no permanent storage and erases any cookies or data each time you log off which is a positive in that it keeps the account super-fast but it also requires some adapting, so I recommend storing things using Google’s cloud storage solution, and using Google Docs for your document editing if you can. If you can’t, you can back it up online or use an external hard drive. I’m telling you, you’ll feel like you’re flying when you see how much faster this is versus your old account. Give it a try. It’s great.
